iPhone 18 Pro leaks suggest corner cutout, under-display Face ID
A new wave of iPhone 18 Pro specs was leaked, suggesting a potential front design change that would move some display components away from Apple’s current center-aligned layout. The claims focus on shifting the selfie camera cutout and at least part of the Face ID hardware away from the current Dynamic Island area.
The most attention-grabbing version of the leak suggests a top-left corner cutout. In that scenario, the Dynamic Island software interface would also relocate to the same corner rather than staying centered. The change is tied to a claimed “under-display Face ID” redesign, with at least one Face ID component potentially hidden beneath the front glass.
This would be a clear shift from Apple’s current approach, where the Dynamic Island sits at the top center and blends hardware cutouts with a software-driven interface. Apple introduced Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, positioning it as a new way to surface alerts, activities, and system interactions.
Not all reporting matches the “corner cutout” interpretation. Some recent leak summaries suggest the Dynamic Island will remain centered but become smaller, with only a portion of Face ID moving under the display. MacRumors noted ongoing uncertainty, with claims that only one Face ID element could shift under-screen while the visible cutout stays in a smaller, centered form.
Beyond the front panel, the same leak package points to internal upgrades. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to use Apple’s A20 Pro chip, and some reports suggest Apple could further reduce reliance on Qualcomm by moving to an in-house C2 modem. A prior MacRumors report linked the C2 modem to the iPhone 18 Pro timeframe.
Camera changes are another major thread. The rumor set includes a variable-aperture main camera, a hardware feature that adjusts the aperture opening to control light intake and depth-of-field behavior. This feature has appeared previously in some Android models, and current leaks suggest Apple is testing it for the Pro lineup.
Other reported refinements include changes to the Camera Control button. The leak describes a simplified design that relies on pressure sensitivity rather than a mix of capacitive gestures and pressure input.
Color testing also appears in the leak cycle. One set of renders and coverage points to Apple testing deep burgundy, brown, and muted purple finishes for the iPhone 18 Pro generation.
Finally, the leak coverage highlights that timelines and details remain fluid. Some reports suggest broader lineup scheduling changes, including the possibility that the standard iPhone 18 could be pushed to 2027. None of the design elements are confirmed, and the reports emphasize that prototype information can be interpreted differently across sources.
