Next-Gen Gaming: LG Unveils the 5K UltraGear evo™ GM9 with Hyper Mini LED

Editors Team

LG Electronics (LG) announced the regional rollout of its next-generation UltraGear evo™ GM9 5K gaming monitor (model 27GM950B), powered by the company’s proprietary Hyper Mini LED backlighting architecture. First unveiled during CES 2026, the new display addresses expanding enterprise and enthusiast demand for high-resolution 5K setups, combining next-generation hardware configurations with specialized software features to support immersion.

The premium monitor delivers a native 5K resolution of 5,120 x 2,880 pixels. By utilizing a Hyper Mini LED configuration, the panel leverages an advanced architecture composed of 2,304 individual local dimming zones—marking a 1.5 times increase compared to conventional Mini LED displays—to allow for highly precise light distribution control, heightened contrast precision, and exceptional peak luminance metrics. The UltraGear evo™ GM9 boasts a peak brightness of 1,250 nits alongside the industry-standard VESA DisplayHDR™ 1000 certification, allowing gamers to maintain strict visual clarity over vital on-screen elements during high-intensity tactical sequences.

Structurally, the 27GM950B is engineered to minimize the localized physical gap between the primary LCD display panel and the underlying LED backlight infrastructure. This tight tolerancing mitigates light leakage and delivers an optimized anti-blooming performance, suppressing common visual artifacts. Through this layout, the monitor has earned TÜV Rheinland’s Anti Blooming certification, verifying its capacity to minimize annoying halo effects to provide crisp visuals with precise black uniformity.

The UltraGear evo™ integrates an automated on-device artificial intelligence suite to augment performance. Featuring built-in 5K AI Upscaling, the hardware dynamically enhances sub-5K gaming content to clean 5K quality without forcing extra processing loads out of existing graphics processing units (GPUs) or requiring system component modifications. The integrated AI engine operates without adding any system latency while introducing supplementary algorithms like AI Scene Optimization and AI Sound processing to refine spatial audio and image output concurrently.

To satisfy varying gameplay demands, the monitor introduces high-speed Dual Mode flexibility. Users can instantly alternate between a 5K resolution at a 165Hz refresh rate for cinematic, graphics-heavy AAA titles, and a QHD layout clocked at a fast 330Hz refresh rate for fast-paced competitive esports titles. Both selectable operational modes preserve high motion clarity with a 1ms Gray-to-Gray (GtG) response time profile. The device includes built-in NVIDIA G-SYNC® compatibility and AMD FreeSync™ Premium support to eliminate screen-tearing and tracking jitter.

Beyond gaming deployments, the hardware addresses the precise clarity constraints of professional digital creators and visual designers. The physical input/output array supports advanced high-bandwidth connectivity options, housing a native DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20) interface alongside a universal USB-C port equipped with 90W Power Delivery, enabling simultaneous high-speed data transmission and laptop charging over a single input cable.

“Our UltraGear evo™ gaming monitor with Hyper Mini LED technology represents a compelling new option for gamers seeking greater visual precision, clarity and control,” said Lee Choong-hwoan, Head of the Display Business at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. He added that the model establishes an advanced industry benchmark for high-resolution display execution, keeping users fully engaged in live action sequences.

LG verified that the UltraGear evo™ 27GM950B will become commercially available in the United Arab Emirates starting in July, with staggered product rollouts across secondary GCC countries continuing throughout the remainder of the year.
