Editors Team

Lenovo unveiled its first laptop manufactured in Saudi Arabia during the LEAP 2026 technology conference in Riyadh, which is covered by the MENA TECH team. The step highlights Lenovo’s expanding footprint in the Kingdom and supports national ambitions to establish a world-class advanced manufacturing and supply chain hub.

The unveiled laptop represents one of the initial outputs from Lenovo’s manufacturing facility in Riyadh, established in strategic partnership with Alat (a PIF company). Full-scale commercial production across select product categories is targeted to commence by late 2026, integrating the Saudi facility into Lenovo’s global manufacturing footprint spanning over 30 sites in 11 countries.

The Riyadh facility holds a unique position as Lenovo’s first site globally configured to manufacture its complete hardware ecosystem under one roof, including personal laptops, desktop systems, Motorola smartphones, and enterprise data center servers.

Tareq Al-Angari, President of Lenovo META, stated that the launch demonstrates the progress of long-term investments aligned with national industrial objectives. Dr. Muhammad Aldawood, Interim CEO of Alat, emphasized that the collaboration builds localized high-tech capabilities, creates specialized engineering roles, and expands the domestic industrial infrastructure driving Saudi Vision 2030.

Over the past year, Lenovo solidified its regional operations by establishing its Middle East, Turkey, and Africa (META) headquarters in Riyadh and initiating R&D facilities under the leadership of Dr. Rabeah Alzaidy. To develop local technical talent, Lenovo partnered with Alat, the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources to train Saudi engineers inside its international manufacturing plants.

Alongside hardware developments, Lenovo presented its sector-specific AI applications at LEAP 2026. Highlights included “Physical AI: Robotic Inspection” an enterprise solution engineered to automate inspection workflows, optimize operational efficiency, and improve worker safety across oil & gas, power, and utility facilities.
