Etihad Rail has launched the United Arab Emirates’ first scheduled passenger train service, marking the beginning of the phased rollout of the country’s passenger rail network. The inaugural scheduled journey departed Fujairah Station at 5:34 a.m. on June 30 and arrived at Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi at 7:19 a.m.

The company said the launch marks a new phase in the development of the UAE’s public transportation system, introducing a new travel option connecting Fujairah and Abu Dhabi.

Demand for the service was strong before operations began, with more than 10,000 tickets sold after reservations opened. Six passenger services are scheduled to operate on the first day of the introductory phase.

According to the company, passengers can access guaranteed seating, onboard Wi-Fi, charging ports at every seat, spacious luggage areas, and business-class services designed to provide additional comfort.

Etihad Rail also announced cooperation with the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) to connect passenger rail services with Abu Dhabi’s wider public transportation network. The integration enables passengers to continue their journeys using buses, taxis, and other mobility services.

Azza Alsuwaidi, Etihad Rail’s chief operating officer, said that every major national infrastructure project reaches a second milestone when it becomes part of people’s daily lives. She added that operating the first scheduled service from Fujairah reflects the transition of a national vision into an everyday transportation service connecting communities and destinations across the UAE.

Dr. Abdullah Hamad Al Ghafli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, said the partnership ensures passengers can continue their journeys beyond the railway station through Abu Dhabi’s integrated transport network. He added that the collaboration supports the emirate’s long-term vision for a smarter, more connected, and sustainable transportation system.

The company said passengers can continue booking tickets through Etihad Rail’s website and mobile application.
