Finnish startup Donut Lab debuts solid-state battery at Consumer Electronics Show 2026
Finnish startup Donut Lab (Donut Lab) presented an all-solid-state battery it describes as ready for production at the Consumer Electronics Show 2026 (CES 2026) in Las Vegas, positioning the technology for near-term use in electric vehicles (EVs).
The company’s battery system, branded Donut Battery, was introduced as part of Donut Lab’s transportation electrification lineup and was tied to initial production deployment through Verge Motorcycles (Verge), which is taking orders with first deliveries listed for the first quarter of 2026 (Q1 2026).
Donut Lab’s CES material described Verge motorcycles using the Donut Battery as capable of charging in under 10 minutes and delivering up to 60 kilometers of combined range per minute of charging, with a long-range configuration listed at up to 600 kilometers on a single charge.
Verge’s TS Pro (TS Pro) product information describes two battery pack options, 20.2 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and 33.3 kWh, with listed range figures of up to 350 kilometers or up to 600 kilometers, depending on configuration. The same page lists direct current (DC) fast charging through a Combined Charging System (CCS) port, up to 200 kilowatts (kW), and states the 33.3 kWh version can add up to 300 kilometers of range in under 10 minutes.
Published specifications associated with the Donut Battery include an energy density listed at 400 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg) and a full-charge window described as five to 10 minutes, with references to a design life target of up to 100,000 charge cycles.
The announcement aligns with the broader goal of solid-state batteries, which replace the liquid electrolyte used in conventional lithium-ion cells with a solid electrolyte, a change commonly associated with improvements in energy density, charging performance, and safety characteristics.
Donut Lab did not provide detailed technical disclosure on specific design choices in the battery chemistry or how the system addresses dendrite formation, a failure mode widely discussed in solid-state battery development.
Beyond motorcycles, Donut Lab’s CES announcement also referenced work with additional partners across electrified platforms, including modular vehicle systems and applications that use the company’s battery, motors, and software stack.
