Lego unveils Smart Brick at Consumer Electronics Show

Editors' Team

Lego introduced its first “Smart Brick” at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas. The brick anchors a new Lego SMART Play system that adds interactive behavior to physical builds without replacing traditional pieces.

The Smart Brick keeps the familiar 2×4 form factor but includes built-in tech so creations can respond to how they are played with. Lego’s announcement described a platform made up of the Smart Brick, Smart Tags that guide behavior, and Smart Minifigures that trigger reactions, with compatibility across the existing Lego System in Play.

The first wave launches through Lego Star Wars sets. The initial lineup includes Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, and Throne Room Duel and A-Wing, each packaged with a mix of Smart Bricks, Smart Tags, and Smart Minifigures. Preorders opened January 9, 2026, and the sets are scheduled to release March 1, 2026.

Lego also positioned SMART Play as a platform that can expand over time with updates and additional releases beyond the first set wave.
