Dubai Electricity and Water Authority wins 2025 Asian Power Award for DERASAT platform
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority won the “Innovative Power Technology of the Year – United Arab Emirates (UAE)” award at the Asian Power Awards 2025 for DERASAT, a digital reporting and analytics platform developed in-house.
The award was presented in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of the Asian Power Awards program recognizing projects across the region’s power sector.
DERASAT (Arabic for “Studies”) was described as a platform built to turn operational grid data into centralized reports and decision-support analytics for distribution network operations across DEWA’s grid. The system was developed internally rather than procured as an external platform.
DEWA reported that DERASAT automated 95% of the monthly reporting workflow and accelerated the production of peak-load reports for more than 4,500 medium-voltage (MV) network rings and nearly 10,000 electrical feeders. Reports are now issued by the second working day of each month, eight days earlier than the previous schedule.
DEWA reported financial savings of 3.5 million United Arab Emirates dirhams (AED) compared with external automated solutions. The platform was also credited with cutting annual operating costs by AED 1.1 million, removing 95% of manual work, and saving 254 working hours per month.
The platform replaced distributed spreadsheets with a centralized reporting system, improving access to operational data for more than 90 internal users.
DERASAT includes analytics such as 30-minute load analysis, automated analysis of network rings, and detection of abnormal load spikes, alongside functions described as not typically available in commercial systems. DEWA also reported that algorithms developed within DERASAT received intellectual property rights from the Ministry of Economy of the UAE.
