OpenAI launches ChatGPT Health for medical questions
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health, a new health-focused space inside ChatGPT designed for medical questions and ongoing health tracking. The feature is built to let users connect health apps on their phones and, where available, link health records so ChatGPT Health can reference that data during health conversations.
ChatGPT Health sits separately from regular chats in the sidebar and keeps its conversations, connected apps, and files contained inside the Health space. Health also uses separate memory, and Health information and memories do not flow back into non-Health chats. At the same time, Health can use context from a user’s non-Health chats, such as lifestyle changes, to make a health conversation more relevant.
OpenAI positioned ChatGPT Health as a tool for everyday questions and for helping users organize and share information with clinicians, not as a replacement for doctors or medical care. The company also stated that Health chats, files, and memories are not used to train its foundation models.
The rollout comes as health is already a major use case for ChatGPT. OpenAI shared data indicating that more than 40 million people use ChatGPT daily for health information, and that more than 5% of ChatGPT messages globally are about health care.
The launch also adds pressure on safety and privacy handling for health-related use. OpenAI has highlighted that Health data stays inside the Health space and can be managed through settings, including the ability to view or delete Health memories and disconnect connected sources.
