Saudi Arabia ranks 2nd in World Bank digital government index
The World Bank Group’s GovTech Maturity Index 2025 placed Saudi Arabia second globally, after an assessment that covered 197 countries.
Saudi officials linked the result to the expansion of government services delivered online and the broader push to streamline procedures and improve service delivery through digital channels.
Faris Mohammed AlRabdi, Vice Governor of Regulation and Digital Trust, said the move toward completing services digitally supported higher efficiency and reduced administrative steps.
He pointed to work on integrating government entities through unified platforms, as well as continued investment in digital infrastructure across the public sector alongside private-sector contributions.
The country ranked 49th in the first edition of the index in 2020, then rose to third place in 2022, before reaching second place in 2025.
The GovTech Maturity Index tracks how governments adopt digital systems and practices to deliver services, manage core functions, and strengthen whole-of-government coordination.
Saudi Arabia’s performance in the 2025 edition was discussed in the context of continued work to improve user experience, accelerate service completion, and expand interoperability across agencies.
