Autonomous delivery vehicles will roam Abu Dhabi streets in a new pilot program
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the UAE’s Department of Municipalities and Transport, has launched a pilot program in Abu Dhabi to introduce autonomous e-commerce delivery vehicles.
The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the local e-commerce platform “Noon” and AutoGo, a subsidiary of K2.
This move continues ITC’s ongoing efforts to develop the Emirate’s smart mobility ecosystem and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a leader in digital transformation and sustainable transportation.
As part of the project, AutoGo’s autonomous delivery vehicles are being integrated into Noon’s logistics network to improve the efficiency of resupplying mini-fulfillment centers across Abu Dhabi and to support the smart mobility system through advanced self-driving technologies.
Equipped with AI and next-generation sensors, the vehicles can navigate urban areas safely and efficiently, delivering orders directly without human involvement.
This development marks a major advance for Abu Dhabi’s logistics industry, integrating smart mobility with e-commerce to enhance efficiency, cut congestion and emissions, and boost customer satisfaction. It also supports the Emirate’s broader smart-mobility plan, which aims to have 25% of all trips in Abu Dhabi completed via smart transportation by 2040.
Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of ITC, stated that the pilot program emphasizes ITC’s dedication to fostering innovative technologies within a safe and dependable regulatory framework that encourages sustainability and improves quality of life for the community.
