Abu Dhabi launches an advanced platform for autonomous driving testing
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, recently unveiled the Autonomous Vehicles Integrated Testing, Operations, and Management System (AViTOMS), a new platform for advancing autonomous driving and technology testing in the nation.
The unveiling took place during DRIFTx 2025, an event organized by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) as part of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week (ADAW).
AViTOMS is a centralized digital platform and the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa. It oversees every stage of autonomous vehicle testing and operation in Abu Dhabi, increasing efficiency and safety and aligning with regulatory standards.
The platform manages the complete lifecycle of autonomous vehicle operations, from registration, applications, and permitting to trial supervision, data analysis, and eventual commercial deployment. It ensures safety and procedural accuracy at every phase.
Through AViTOMS, the ITC can maintain full oversight of autonomous vehicle trials by receiving and evaluating applications, assessing company readiness, and granting permits across four defined testing phases. It enables real-time monitoring of vehicle activity, allowing authorities to intervene instantly when necessary and improving response coordination with other government entities.
The system offers a comprehensive suite of smart tools, featuring an online application portal, digital workflow management, interactive maps for real-time tracking, operational dashboards, and instant fault-response mechanisms. It also enables stakeholders to exchange data securely and immediately, ensuring seamless oversight and enforcing strict regulatory compliance.
