Self-driving vehicles cleaning the streets of Abu Dhabi
The Integrated Transport Center (ITC), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), introduced Robosweeper autonomous cleaning vehicles along the Abu Dhabi Corniche for automated street cleaning operations.
The vehicles were developed by AutoGo, a subsidiary of K2, under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, and with oversight from the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi.
The Robosweeper vehicles are an advanced cleaning and sanitization solution that depend on autonomous robotic systems equipped with sensors and modern navigation technologies.
Thanks to these systems, the vehicles can follow predetermined routes and carry out cleaning tasks efficiently without direct human oversight. They are specially designed for high-density urban areas such as sidewalks, public squares, and pedestrian zones, helping to cut down reliance on manual labor and ensuring continuous urban cleanliness services.
Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasri, Acting Under-Secretary at DMT, said, “The deployment of such technology exemplifies our proactive approach to integrating cutting-edge technology into public infrastructure. By pioneering such solutions, we are actively shaping a future where innovation directly contributes to operational management and enhances the well-being of our community. This program reinforces Abu Dhabi’s global standing as a forward-thinking, highly efficient capital city.”
Dr. Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director-General of the Integrated Transport Centre, stated, “The launch of this project reaffirms Abu Dhabi’s commitment to continuing investment in smart and green solutions that advance the transport and public services sector, enhance operational efficiency, and adopt the latest technological innovations in line with global best practices.”
