This encompasses YouTubers, TikTokers, podcasters, filmmakers, gamers, and live streamers. What unites them all is that they create content, build digital communities, and generate revenue through brand partnerships, advertising, subscriptions, or direct sales.

In the Gulf, this shift is happening at a remarkable pace. Across the GCC countries, the number of creators monetizing their work has surged to roughly 263,000, representing a 75% growth in just two years. In the United Arab Emirates alone, sector revenues are projected to reach nearly AED 1.8 billion in 2026. What was once viewed as a side hustle is now evolving into an organized, fully integrated professional ecosystem.

More importantly, creators are no longer just shaping audience culture; they are also driving commerce. In the UAE and Saudi Arabia, 73% of consumers report making a purchase through social media over the past year—a clear indicator of content’s profound impact on daily buying decisions.

However, as opportunities expand, so do the pressures. Creators today are producing more material, across more platforms, and at a faster pace than ever before. A beauty influencer might post daily short-form videos, manage brand collaborations, and run a storefront across social platforms. A filmmaker might shoot in 4K resolution, edit multiple cuts, and distribute them to a global audience. At the same time, a new generation of creators—gamers and live streamers—is emerging, building massive followings through live, real-time content.

This subsector alone is helping reshape the landscape. Across the Middle East and North Africa, live-streaming audiences have quintupled in just four years, while quarterly watch hours have risen sharply. Gaming is no longer a niche hobby; it has become one of the most dynamic entry points into the creator economy.

Yet behind this visible growth lies a challenge that few outside the industry fully appreciate: every piece of content generates data. As a result, video footage, stream recordings, edit cuts, graphics, and archives quickly pile up into vast and expanding content libraries. As production formats move toward higher resolutions and workflows rely more heavily on artificial intelligence, data volumes are expanding exponentially.

Today, this data is not an operational burden; it is a key commercial asset. The value of past content keeps growing. A single video can be reformatted for different platforms, old footage can be reused for campaigns or licensing, and long videos can be cut into short clips to increase reach and relevance. With AI-powered tools, creators now use their libraries to train systems, build new assets, and speed up work.

In short, what a creator makes today generates value tomorrow. This changes everything: content is no longer disposable, but a cumulative asset. Managing it well is key to sustained growth.

A slow upload means missing a trend. A missing file means losing revenue. A messy workflow delays production and hurts long-term monetization. As creators grow, reliable storage, access, and reuse become essential.

As data value grows, the cost of losing it rises. Reliable and scalable storage is no longer a minor technical detail—it is the core infrastructure for building a lasting business in the creator economy. Gulf creators prove this point: over 95% of watch time for UAE-based YouTube channels comes from overseas, showing their ability to build global, scalable businesses.

In the end, going viral is no longer the main goal. The real challenge today is building something sustainable.

Guest article by Lance Ohara, vice president for Edge IoT product portfolio at Seagate Long associated with influencers and viral videos, the creator economy is no longer just a passing digital trend; it has quietly transformed into one of the fastest-growing digital sectors in the Gulf region.
