There will be two types of eyewear: audio glasses that deliver assistance through spoken audio directly into the user’s ear, and display glasses that present information when it’s needed. Both are designed to keep users hands-free and heads-up, with access to Gemini simply by asking.

Google confirmed that audio glasses will launch first, arriving later this fall. Here’s a closer look at their key features:

Stylish on the outside

Audio glasses can only deliver all-day assistance if they are stylish and comfortable at the same time. That’s why Google partnered with Samsung, as well as eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, to develop glasses that users would be happy to wear all day long. At the event, Google offered a first look at two initial designs that will be part of the full Gentle Monster and Warby Parker collections later this year.

Advanced intelligence on the inside

Users will only need to say “Hey Google” or tap the side of the frame to instantly access Gemini. From there, they can ask questions about anything they see around them or request help completing tasks on their behalf. Here are some of the upcoming features in audio glasses:

Ask about what you see: Users can ask Gemini about anything in their field of view. For example, they can ask for reviews of a restaurant they are walking past, identify a cloud formation above them, or quickly understand confusing parking signs.

Navigate with ease: The glasses understand the user’s location and direction, enabling natural turn-by-turn navigation. Gemini can also add stops along the route or find nearby restaurants based on preferences.

Stay connected hands-free: Users can manage calls, send messages, and have Gemini summarize missed messages without touching their phone. They can also request music that fits their environment—all through clear and private over-ear speakers.

Capture and edit: Users can instantly take high-quality photos and videos. With a single command, they can capture an image and use Nano Banana to remove distracting background elements or creatively transform images. For example: “Hey Google, take a picture and put funny hats on everyone.”

Translate speech and text: The glasses provide real-time translation with audio that matches the speaker’s tone and pitch, or users can simply look at menus and signs to hear translations instantly.

Help with tasks: Gemini Intelligence can handle multi-step tasks in the background. For example, it can prepare a coffee order on DoorDash while the user keeps their phone in their pocket, leaving only final confirmation.

Access your apps: Users can order rides with Uber, learn new languages with Mondly, and more using only their voice.
