⬤ Copilot for Gaming is now in beta for Xbox Insiders, offering real-time AI assistance during gameplay.

⬤ Limited handheld support is live, with deeper game integration and coaching features coming soon.

Microsoft has begun rolling out Copilot for Gaming, its new AI-powered companion designed to assist players during gameplay. The beta version is currently available to Xbox Insiders on PC through the Game Bar feature and can also be tested on handheld Windows gaming devices with some limitations.

Microsoft first unveiled Copilot for Gaming in March, presenting it as a tool to guide players and simplify various aspects of gameplay. For example, in Minecraft, the assistant can answer crafting-related questions and help locate specific materials, eliminating the need to pause the game to search online. While in Overwatch 2, it recommends the best hero compositions for team balance, explaining each character’s strengths and weaknesses.

Copilot for Gaming also includes a Voice Mode that allows players to talk directly to the AI. By selecting the microphone icon from the navigation bar and pinning the assistant on-screen, users can chat with Copilot while playing.

According to Microsoft, the assistant can now use in-game screenshots to deliver more relevant responses. It can also answer system-related questions and suggest new games that might interest the user.

The beta version is also available for Windows handheld gaming devices, though with limited capabilities for now. Microsoft says more improvements are on the way, especially ahead of the launch of ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X devices.

Future updates will introduce more customization options and deeper integration with different games, including proactive training and coaching features.

While the new assistant offers convenience, it remains to be seen whether players will prefer it over traditional guides, friends, or community platforms such as Reddit and Steam.

To try Copilot for Gaming, users must have the Xbox app installed on their PC. Press Windows + G to open the Game Bar overlay while in a game, app, or on the desktop, then select the Copilot for Gaming icon to launch the tool and sign in with an Xbox account.

The beta is currently available in English only for Xbox Insiders aged 18 and older in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and several other regions.
