Egypt finalizes $3.5 billion spectrum deal, the biggest to date
Egyptian authorities confirmed that they have finalized what they call their largest spectrum agreement so far, allocating 410 megahertz of additional spectrum to four mobile network operators.
The newly allocated spectrum, which includes radio frequency bands used for wireless services like 4G and 5G, has been assigned to Telecom Egypt, e& Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, and Orange Egypt.
According to a cabinet statement, the amount of spectrum allocated under this deal matches the total frequency capacity given to mobile operators over the past thirty years. This means the allocated bandwidth has doubled overnight.
The agreement is expected to generate a record $3.5 billion in revenue for the state treasury, the statement said. “We are doubling the frequency capacities available to operators over thirty years in one deal,” Communications Minister Amr Talaat confirmed.
Talaat noted that the allocation builds on Egypt’s rollout of 5G services in June 2025. He added that telecommunications has been the fastest-growing sector in the country for eight consecutive years and currently accounts for roughly 6% of GDP.
In November 2024, Telecom Egypt and Vodafone Egypt entered into a series of major infrastructure service agreements valued at $609 million, including measures to prepare the country for the introduction of 5G networks, which came later in June 2025.
