⬤ The Shenxing Pro system offers long-range and ultra-fast charging options, targeting Europe’s growing EV market.

⬤ CATL claims minimal capacity loss over time and strong performance even in extreme cold conditions.

⬤ With over €11 billion invested locally, CATL aims to strengthen its position as the world’s leading battery supplier.

Chinese battery giant CATL has unveiled a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery platform aimed at meeting Europe’s growing demand for electric mobility. The new system, called Shenxing Pro, will come in two variants, both of which look promising on paper.

The first version focuses primarily on long range. According to CATL, it can deliver up to 758 kilometers (471 miles) on a single charge, based on the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Perhaps even more impressive is its longevity rating. The company claims the battery is designed to last 12 years or 1 million kilometers (about 621,000 miles), with only around a 9 percent drop in capacity after the first 200,000 kilometers of driving.

The second version emphasizes ultra-fast charging. CATL says a 10-minute charge can provide up to 478 kilometers (297 miles) of range. Performance numbers are equally striking, with the unit reportedly capable of delivering 830 kilowatts of power and enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds, even at a 20 percent charge level.

Of course, much of this performance depends on the type of vehicle in which the battery is installed, driving conditions, and several other variables.

Even in cold weather at minus 20 degrees Celsius, CATL says users can expect 410 kilometers of range from a 20-minute charge. The battery will also come with a 10-year or 240,000-kilometer warranty.

Both versions use a new “Wave” cell design, which the company says offers better volumetric efficiency than traditional cell-to-body structures. The batteries are also built with multi-directional vibration damping, are 25 percent more rigid than other comparable packs, and can be cooled from any direction for improved thermal stability.

CATL is making a major push into the European market, having already invested more than 11 billion euros in local operations. Although the company did not specify future export plans, it is likely that the new Shenxing Pro systems will also reach other global markets where trade barriers are less restrictive.

CATL remains the largest battery manufacturer in the world, serving as the primary or exclusive supplier for a large share of today’s electric vehicles, including those made by Chinese, European, and American automakers alike.
