13 years in the making, GTA VI release date confirmed for November 2026
After multiple delays and 13 years since its predecessor launched, the long-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI now has a confirmed release date of November 19, 2026. Take-Two Interactive shared the update with IGN, formally confirming the latest timing. Rockstar Games, the Take-Two-owned publisher behind the title, is set to kick off marketing efforts in the summer of 2026.
The game was initially slated for a fall 2025 release, but that window was pushed back. It was later eyed for a May 26, 2026, release, only to be delayed again to November 19, 2026. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has since expressed confidence that this revised date will be the final one.
Zelnick said: “Our execution throughout Fiscal 2026 has been extraordinary, and we are highly confident as we approach Fiscal 2027, led by the November 19th release of Grand Theft Auto VI with Rockstar’s launch marketing set to begin this Summer.”
Grand Theft Auto VI follows Grand Theft Auto V and continues the long-running franchise with a return to Vice City. The new installment is expected to feature a substantially larger and more detailed game world than previous entries. Lucia will be introduced as the franchise’s first female protagonist, alongside a male lead named Jason, forming a criminal duo.
At launch, GTA 6 will be exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S consoles. A PC version is expected in 2027. The game was also confirmed to have a physical release on day one, which dispels earlier rumors of a digital-only launch.
Even with all the hype and rampant speculations, GTA VI has a huge pair of shoes to fill. GTA V has been one of the most successful games in history, selling 225 million units and generating around $10 billion in revenue.
